Definition of Disposition A suspension with conditions reflects a determination that the lawyer has engaged in misconduct and that the misconduct warrants both an interruption of the lawyer's authority to practice law during the suspension period, and the imposition of conditions with which the lawyer must comply. The suspension may be for a fixed period of time or for a fixed period of time and until the lawyer complies with the conditions. The lawyer is not authorized to practice law during the period of the suspension.
Case Summary Mr. Martin, who was licensed in 1995, was suspended for six months, ordered to complete the ARDC Professionalism Seminar, and must pay any outstanding judgments, orders for fees and costs, and contempt fines arising out of his misconduct. He filed three frivolous lawsuits, communicated directly with parties he knew to be represented by counsel, and threatened to present a professional disciplinary allegation against another attorney to force that attorney to withdraw from representing the opposing party in civil litigation. The suspension is effective on June 6, 2014.
