Disposition Suspension with condition(s)
Effective Date of Disposition 02/10/2022
End Date of Disposition
Definition of Disposition A suspension with conditions reflects a determination that the lawyer has engaged in misconduct and that the misconduct warrants both an interruption of the lawyer's authority to practice law during the suspension period, and the imposition of conditions with which the lawyer must comply. The suspension may be for a fixed period of time or for a fixed period of time and until the lawyer complies with the conditions. The lawyer is not authorized to practice law during the period of the suspension.
Case Summary Mr. Buhl was licensed in Illinois in 1985 and in Connecticut in 1987. In July 2017, the Superior Court for the Judicial District of Middlesex, Connecticut, suspended him until 1) he successfully completed a two-year period of probation in a criminal matter for operating a motor vehicle under the influence of liquor or drugs, and 2) he is reinstated to the practice of law in Connecticut, where was administratively suspended for failure to pay a mandatory Client Security Fund fee. The Superior Court later suspended Mr. Buhl for two years, retroactive to October 15, 2019, and required him to apply for reinstatement to the practice of law, for illegally operating a motor vehicle and failing to participate in his disciplinary proceedings. The Supreme Court of Illinois imposed reciprocal discipline and suspended him for two years and until he is reinstated to the practice of law in Connecticut. The suspension is effective on February 10, 2022.

Disposition Reprimand With Conditions
Effective Date of Disposition 09/21/2015
End Date of Disposition 09/21/2015 Condition(s) continue.
Definition of Disposition A reprimand reflects a determination that the lawyer has engaged in misconduct, but that the violation is not so serious to warrant a sanction that would affect the lawyer’s authority to continue to practice law. As a result, a reprimand does not affect the authority of the lawyer to continue to practice law. A reprimand is the only form of discipline that may be imposed by the Hearing Board or Review Board. All other discipline must be imposed by the Supreme Court.
Case Summary Mr. Buhl was licensed in Illinois in 1985 and in Connecticut in 1987. He was reprimanded by the Superior Court for the Judicial District of Middlesex, Connecticut, for failing to communicate with a client and for not diligently pursuing the client’s post-judgment civil matter. He was also ordered to complete a continuing legal education course in legal ethics for failing to turn over all of the documents to which another client was entitled. The Supreme Court of Illinois imposed reciprocal discipline, reprimanded him, and ordered him to complete the course required in Connecticut.
