Definition of Disposition A suspension with conditions reflects a determination that the lawyer has engaged in misconduct and that the misconduct warrants both an interruption of the lawyer's authority to practice law during the suspension period, and the imposition of conditions with which the lawyer must comply. The suspension may be for a fixed period of time or for a fixed period of time and until the lawyer complies with the conditions. The lawyer is not authorized to practice law during the period of the suspension.
Case Summary Mr. Pippenger, who was licensed in 1998, was suspended for sixty days and must successfully complete the ARDC Professionalism Seminar. Beginning in 2010, he agreed to file a patent application and a complaint relating to a contractual dispute on behalf of a client. He delayed filing the patent application and never filed the contractual dispute complaint, but misrepresented the status of both matters to his client. He also failed to be candid with the ARDC during the course of the disciplinary investigation. The suspension is effective on April 4, 2014.
